Volunteer Opportunities at the JCC

JumpStart

Part of our family of early childhood education programs, JumpStart is a therapeutic early-childhood classroom experience for two- and three-year-olds with special needs. The only program of its kind in the greater Fairfield County area, the Jump Start classroom follows the pattern of a typical nursery school classroom, offering invaluable social and educational experiences in a group setting for children who typically get one-on-one services at home, in a more isolated setting.

The success of Jump Start is due, in large part, to the one-on-one care the children receive from the professional teaching staff and a group of committed volunteers. Volunteer resources for JumpStart are limited, and, at any time, there may be children waiting to enter the program. More volunteers must be found in order to admit them to the program.

Those interested in volunteering for JumpStart are asked to contact Nancy Schiffman, JCC Associate Executive Director, at 203-487-0941 or nschiffman@stamfordjcc.org

It is important for the stability of the classroom that volunteers make a regular weekly commitment. No prior experience or training is required, just a love of children and the passion to make a difference in their lives. All volunteers will be given training, support and guidance.

Senior Lunch Program

The Stamford Jewish Community Center's senior nutrition program is the only kosher lunch program available to elderly residents of Fairfield County. Hot, nutritionally balanced, kosher meals are served on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Volunteers are needed to help organize and serve these meals.

In addition, special holiday meals are served for each of the Jewish holidays as well as secular American holidays. The JCC provides door-to-door round trip transportation to those seniors who do not have access to another means of transport to and from the Center.

Funding for the senior nutrition program is provided in part by The Center Women, by the federal government through Catholic Charities, and by the United Way of Stamford. While seniors are asked to make a modest daily donation for lunch, no one is ever turned away due to lack of ability to pay.

Those interested in volunteering for the senior lunch program are asked to contact Amy Hollander, Director of Senior Services, at 203-487-0983 or ahollander@stamfordjcc.org
