Here are but a few of the things you can do:
- Work out on the latest exercise and strength-training equipment in our
spacious, light-filled fitness center
- Swim laps in the pool, sign up for that aquatics class you've had your eye on, or maybe do a little personal training in the water.
- Take a spinning class, hit the mats with Pilates, or fall in line with our boot camp or any of the other group fitness classes currently offered at the JCC.
- Discover our fantastic Les Mills group fitness classes, BODYPUMP™ and BODYVIVE™.
- Take up Israeli Dancing or join the Melton Adult Mini School for Jewish learning.
- Join The Center Women in volunteering to make a difference at our JCC.
- Take up table tennis (or wallyball) or drop in for a pick-up basketball game.
- Start personal training (we know you've wanted to for years).
- Learn to play Mah Jongg.
- Meet a friend for lunch in our kosher dairy café, Sweet on You.
Adult Classes & Courses
Melton Adult Mini-School The Jewish Community Center and the Bureau of Jewish Education of UJF are proud to sponsor the Florence Melton Adult Mini-School in our community. A project of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, these classes enable Jewish learners from all backgrounds to learn about our heritage and culture in challenging and inspiring courses of study. First year classes are offered on Wednesday mornings or Thursday evenings and begin in September. Space is limited, and enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis. $500 per year, 30 weekly sessions.

Jewish Education Courses for Adults The Stamford JCC has partnered with the Institute for Advanced Jewish Learning, an initiative of the Bureau of Jewish Education of United Jewish Federation. The program offers a variety of mini-courses, seminars (3- to 10-session units), and lectures from October 2010 through June 2011 on various days of the week, morning and evening classes. The main focus this year is Israel history, advocacy, and current events. We will also offer content ranging from philosophy and literature to the Bible and the Talmud. November 7 Global Day of Jewish Learning On that day, Jews all over the world will come together in their communities to study Jewish texts and teachings. The Global Day celebrates the completion of the Steinsaltz edition of the Talmud. Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz will complete his 45-volume translation and commentary of the Talmud in a Jerusalem ceremony (siyyum.) The purpose of the Global Day of Jewish Learning is to spark and nourish a love for Jewish learning and to celebrate the unity that Jewish learning can engender. NEW! Multisport Swimming for Beginners JCC Managing Director and USA Triathlon Coach Jon Stellwagen has developed a program that will take away all your fears of the open water and have you competing like a pro. This class covers not only the fundamentals of swimming; it also teaches you how to apply those fundamentals when racing in a triathlon. This 10 week program is open to all levels. NEW! Multisport Cycle This fall, the JCC will be taking our 150-member-strong JCC Multisport Cycling Program indoors. A first at the JCC, this ride will be designed to simulate riding outdoors. Members are welcome to use JCC indoor bikes along with bike trainers (supplied by members and the JCC). NEW! Multisport Brick What’s a Brick? A Brick Workout is a triathlon term describing any two workouts that are done within succession of one another. Our JCC Multisport Brick class will be designed around a weekly swim workout with alternating run or cycling programs to follow. This exciting class will help to build muscle endurance as well as mentally prepare you for race day. Open to all levels.

NEW! Women’s Multisport Swim Club Women Only! The popularity of our Friday morning Multisport Swim was so overwhelming among JCC Women that we decided to add another class. Aquatic Group Private Water Fitness with Ellen (4 or more) There must be 4 or more people to attend a group private water fitness class. Swimming lessons are a half-hour in length. Fees are per person, per series sale of 5 classes. There is a registration fee of $20 per person per semester for non-members (see page 3). If you buy a minimum of $500 worth of lessons at the beginning of the year, you will pay the registration fee only once for a savings of $60. Note: 24-hour notice of cancellation of private lessons is required, or you will be charged in full for the lesson. Please call the pool office at (203) 487-0991 for cancellations and general information. Please stop at front desk before each lesson to collect your receipt, which you then need to bring with you to the pool and give to your instructor before each lesson.

NEW! Water Pilates Turn your Pilates exercise workout into a creative water exercise program! Water Pilates teaches you to strengthen the core muscles with unique back and abdominal exercises. Water Pilates follows the same principles of regular Pilates only it’s done in “Water”. This wonderful alternative practicing Pilates in the water is not only soothing, but also allows for fluidity. Water Wake-Up This great early-morning water aerobics class is designed for those who are physically fit! It is high impact and keeps you moving in the water. The ultimate in water fitness, this high impact water aerobics class will help sculpt your muscles, make your heart stronger, build endurance and create a physically fit body! Aqua Arthritis Aqua Arthritis is back with Lorraine Zeigbe, a certified Arthritis Instructor! This program is designed for those with Arthritis who are looking for a comfortable way to work out and gain flexibility, build muscle and endurance without stress on the body due to the cushioning effects of the water. Medical permission slip is required to attend. Please note: You many sign up for one day a week and will be pro-rated. Non-member fee will be waived for this class.
