Morning Specialties at O-la-mi

Swimming @ O-la-mi

For many parents, there's nothing more important in the summer than helping your child develop their swimming skills. Water safety is always our first priority, and making your child feel comfortable in the water comes in close second. Our world-class aquatics staff makes sure each child is making as much swimming progress as possible, helping to bring out the inner "fish" in all of them! The O-la-mi instructional swim program follows the internationally recognized American Red Cross learn-to-swim instructional program, however O-la-mi adds our own exciting twists. Swimming for fun is also an important part of the O-la-mi experience. Daily free play in the pool includes water basketball and volleyball games, noodle races, use of the diving rings, Marco Polo, and tons more!

Sports @ O-la-mi
You'll be astounded at the fun your children will have playing sports at O-la-mi. Whether they are a natural Michael Jordan or have never played a sport, our morning sports program will provide your child with the best sports skills instruction, appropriate game play, and countless fun experiences, all led by Coach Mo and our talented sports specialists.

Creative Arts @ O-la-mi
Let your child's inner artist emerge in the creativearts program at O-la-mi! This program gives each child an opportunity to let out their inner Van Gogh, Pavarotti, or MC Hammer! They will have a chance to paint a landscape, make super goo, and even create cool paper maché masterpieces. They will learn popular dances and create their own smooth moves. In music, they will write their own tunes and learn countless catchy O-la-mi songs. Believe us, they'll be singing them all year round!

Jewish Life @ O-la-mi
While O-la-mi reaches out and welcomes children of all backgrounds, regular celebrations of Jewish culture and heritage are an important element of our program. Spirited daily song fests, weekly Oneg Shabbats, and Jewish creative arts are designed to develop pride and further Jewish values. Our Jewish life specialists and visiting Israeli schlichim work closely with our staff to make sure that activities are inclusive and respectful of individual differences.

Afternoon Electives @ O-la-mi

Choose Your Electives @ O-la-mi
"It's time for electives!" Specialty camps seem to be all the rage these days, but how much is too much? While baseball and painting are fun, and swimming and dance couldn't be better, sometimes a full day may be just a little too much. You don't have to make that choice at O-la-mi as our unique twofer approach gives your child the benefit of a traditional multi-activity program in the morning, with the excitement of a specialty program in the afternoon. Each child in Bonim and Tzofim will get to choose their electives ... whether sports or creative arts, swimming or science, cheerleading or even kayaking.* Each elective will include intensive (but fun) learning from the very best professionals we can find ... experts like Bobby Valentine's Sports Academy, Blue Wave Kickers, Down Under Kayaking, Cheer Excape All Stars, and others.

Trips and Entertainment @ O-la-mi
Water parks, baseball games, and magic, oh my! Here at O-la-mi, we only go on the coolest trips and bring in the best and funniest entertainers to add even MORE fun and excitement to O-la-mi. We tailor all of our trip and entertainment days to each age group's interests. Check out our O-la-mi calendar for specific dates and destinations!

Theme Days @ O-la-mi
With theme days at O-la-mi, every day is different. Dress as your favorite singer on Rock Star Day. Plant a flower on Green Day. Make your own falafel and "travel" around Israel on, you guessed it, Israel Day! We've got a day for every child's interests! Here at O-la-mi, we aren't afraid to look kooky and silly. Let the silliness begin!

Lunch and Ruach @ O-la-mi
What do lunch and ruach (the Hebrew word for spirit) have in common? At O-la-mi, lunchtime is one of the most spirited times of the day. Kids of all ages will eat together and show their O-la-mi spirit as they sing the songs they have written and learned, perform some funky dances, and have cheerdowns that will get EVERYONE moving!

Maccabi Color War @ O-la-mi
What would O-la-mi be without our amazing Maccabi Color War challenges? We don't just do color war for one week, we stretch the fun out during all eight weeks, complete with tug of wars, sing downs, surprise challenges, basketball games, races, apaché relays and tons more!

At the end, ALL kids, regardless of how long or when they were at O-la-mi, are invited back for our End of O-la-mi Celebration when the Color War winner is announced and we end another fabulous summer. Let the games begin!

Friday Shabbat BBQs @ O-la-mi
Our BBQs at O-la-mi are the hottest around (no pun intended), and we know how to kick it up a notch on Fridays! Our grill master John will cook up a different choice each week. Some weeks we have hot dogs, some weeks hamburgers, some weeks corn, and we even have pasta! To make our BBQs even more special, we celebrate the miracle of Shabbat with a bang, complete with blessings, song, celebration, and tons of ruach (it's what we do best)!

Special Family Events @ O-la-mi
Here at O-la-mi, we're all about family and bringing the whole clan together! You will get the chance to experience a parent Shabbat, which will give you a taste of what your child does during a Shabbat lunch - it'll knock your socks off! We will also have a family Shabbat celebration at the end of the summer where we will dance, sing, and most importantly eat the night away. Check out our calendar for specific dates. We can't wait to see you there!

Grades 9-10

C.I.T. Program
Grades 9 & 10

The Counselor-in-Training Program is open to teens who want the experience of working with children. They will become young professionals while still having fun. The O-la-mi director will train and advise each CIT throughout their time at O-la-mi, providing them with useful tools and information on how to ultimately become the best counselor possible. The CIT program at O-la-mi is a great way for your teen to make many new friends, share and learn from experiences, and have a blast!

Upon successful completion of the program, CITs will receive an honorarium for each four-week session. Admission is very limited. All potential participants are required to be interviewed and selected for inclusion.

For those 16 and over...
Being a counselor at O-la-mi is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You will be a leader, a role model, learn from others, form lasting memories, and most importantly, make a difference in the lives of many children.

A job working at O-la-mi is an experience like no other! You don't have to sit in a stuffy office all day and wish you were enjoying the sunshine. When you work at O-la-mi, t-shirts and shorts are the attire, and you'll definitely be enjoying plenty of that summer sun. Regardless of your college major (for those in college), working at camp will provide you with skills and expertise that you can apply to any field.

If you are responsible, enthusiastic, and love to have fun with children, please contact Sarah Evans, Director of O-la-mi, at 203-487-0973 or sevans@stamfordjcc.org to schedule an interview.

Wait ... There's More!
Check out our three specialty programs!

What-A-Production!
Grade 3 through Grade 6
June 28 - July 23
Monday - Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Join Krissy Dorn, a local and regional actress, this summer and experience all aspects of theater production! Spend your mornings creating zany characters, learning dance moves, singing songs, playing crazy theater games, doing amazing set and costume projects, and most importantly, putting on an amazing show!

What A Production offers a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to use their creativity and imagination. Just ask one of our many past participants and they will tell you what a blast they had!

And this year's performance will be (drum roll, please) ... Jackie and the Beanstalk!

It's 1970 and Jackie and her mother are living on skid row. In need of money, Jackie sets off to the village to sell the family cow. Instead of selling the cow, Jackie trades him for some "magic" beans. With the help of the Bean Girls, a roller skating Fairy, and the giant's wife, Jackie must defeat the giant and bring home the "bacon". This 70s-themed romp will be sure to have you grooving through the summer.

In addition to producing a musical, participants will enjoy traditional summer activities at O-la-mi. It's the very best of both worlds! (See the description of afternoon electives for the
Tzofim group).
